The effect of urbanization on temperature indices in the Philippines

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the effect urbanization on surface air temperature (SAT) from 1951 to 2018 in Philippines. The daily minimum (Tmin) and maximum (Tmax) records 34 meteorological stations were used derive extreme indices. These then classified as urban or rural based satellite night-lights. results showed significant difference SAT trends between stations, indicative country. Larger more warming observed indices related Tmin than those Tmax. In particular, effects annual index series Tmin, diurnal range, percentage days when was less 10th percentile (TN10p), greater 90th (TN90p), number coldest nights. not clear Tmax (TXx), (TXn), (TX10p), hottest days. statistically at 95% confidence level, with exception Tmax, TXn, TXx, TX10p, Further revealed that greatest during DJF (December–January–February) season. findings serve baseline study focuses countrywide
